Eugene Ozhinsky, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging, University of California San Francisco. His main research interests are in the areas of machine learning for musculoskeletal imaging and MR-guided focused ultrasound therapy.

He is working at the VA Advanced Imaging Research Center (VAARC, part of San Francisco Veterans Affairs Health Care System) on development and implementation of machine learning techniques for automated image processing, analysis, and prescription of musculoskeletal X-ray, MRI, PET, and CT images. The goal of this work is to improve care for the VA patient population by enabling precise diagnostics, prediction of disease progression, as well as response to therapy.

As a PI of an NIBIB Trailblazer R21 grant, Dr. Ozhinsky is leading the development of MR thermometry and ultrasound beamforming techniques for targeted hyperthermia treatments. In collaboration with Dr. Chris Diederich (dept. of Radiation Oncology) he is working on development of MR monitoring techniques for focused ultrasound treatment of pancreatic cancer.

Dr. Ozhinsky has obtained his PhD in the UC Berkeley/UCSF Joint Graduate Program in Bioengineering. His dissertation work was on automated acquisition of brain magnetic resonance spectroscopy data.
