We're excited to welcome our three summer fellows to UCSF's Center for Intelligent Imaging (ci2)! One of our pillars is Education, and we are passionate about providing students with research and learning opportunities in artificial intelligence and biomedical imaging.
Harsh Tripathi
Computer Science graduate student at the University at Buffalo.
Faculty Mentor and PI: Rajesh Shah, MD
"I'm excited to contribute to impactful research this summer and to help bridge the gap between medicine and AI/ML through the innovative projects at ci2. Outside of work, I enjoy playing badminton, traveling and watching soccer."
Harsh will work with Dr. Shah to improve global data ingestion and interpretation. Their study will utilize IR clinic notes from UCSF and de-identified notes from other institutions to create a methodology to convert narrative text to structured data reports using a large language model.
Koharu Sakiyama
Upcoming senior at UC Berkeley majoring in Molecular & Cell Biology and minoring in Data Science.
Faculty Mentor and PI: Jae Ho Sohn, MD, MS
"Following my undergraduate studies, I hope to pursue a PhD in computational medicine or related field. Through this internship, I am very excited to continue my work with Dr. Sohn and further delve into how these models can enhance radiologists' workflow efficiency in the clinical setting. I also look forward to meeting and working alongside numerous researchers and clinicians while learning from the innovative research community at the UCSF Center for Intelligent Imaging. "
Koharu will work with Dr. Sohn in the translational natural language processing laboratory focusing on clinical radiology. They aim to improve radiological communication by incorporating large language models to create patient-friendly radiology reports and identify areas to improve sentence clarity and auto-generate impressions.
Anoushka Shah
Upcoming senior at UC Berkeley majoring in Neuroscience and Data Science with an emphasis in Applied Mathematics and Modeling
Faculty Mentor and PI: Melanie Morrison, PhD
The project Anoushka will work on will involve utilizing advanced MRI techniques, machine learning and AI to develop imaging biomarkers that can be used to study DBS mechanisms and/or predict outcomes.
Join us in welcoming the summer fellows to UCSF!
